Public Infrastructure & You

I am a Civil Engineer with over twenty years of public sector experience in the areas of water utilities and public works. I have served as Director of Public Works, Capital Projects Manager, Capital Projects Coordinator, and Civil Engineer in full service municipalities with populations ranging from 43,000 to approximately 1,000,000.

In July 2010, I retired from my last municipal position, having served for over 7 years as Director of Public Works for the City of Cedar Hill, TX, an organization composed of 44 full time positions and an operating budget for 2010-11 of $13.5 million.

As the Public Works Director, I was responsible for project delivery of an unprecedented number of Capital Improvement Projects during a period of rapid growth in the City of Cedar Hill as well as the management and direction of activities and operations of the Public Works Department.

The Public Works Department includes the Engineering, GIS, Environmental Services, Streets and Drainage, Signs and Signals, Water & Sewer Operations and Fleet Maintenance Divisions.

Under my guidance, the Department has developed a strong commitment to detail, time-management, communications, teamwork and continuous improvement. Additionally, I initiated the ongoing APWA Self Assessment process.

As Director, I recommended and administered policies and procedures, directed and coordinated department work plans and supervised department personnel, overseeing and participating in the development and administration of budgets, representing the Department to other city departments, and interfacing with other city employees and citizens.

As a member of several regional committees, I participated in transportation and water resources planning for the region and actively participated in the regional stormwater pollution prevention task force.
