The South Node carries the impression left on the soul from past lives, which you could call the soul’s base. The South Node’s qualities are in-built.

The North Node’s qualities must be consciously developed, and are progressively elaborated during the course of life. The Nodes of the Moon can highlight personal karmic imbalance. Thus, consciously working on these “life lessons” can bring us to increased happiness and fulfillment. If we over-emphasize and fall back on the qualities of our South Node, at the expense of developing our North Node, we may have a difficult time feeling personally successful.
